In order to develop the whole child, CCA offers a variety of specials and elective choices for our K-8 students. Programs include:

ART - 5th Wheel, 6th Wheel, 7th & 8th

This elective has been expanded to include many fun and challenging projects. Students will study color, shapes, and lines, using this knowledge to create abstract designs. They will also study texture, hue, value, 2-point and 3-point perspective drawing, painting on canvas, working with clay, creating mosaics, making masks, painting pottery, and sculpting.

WORSHIP BAND - 7th & 8th

Middle School students who enjoy singing or playing instruments will have the opportunity to excel in this very diverse program. The Worship Band consists of 3-4 singers, a guitarist, drums, and two keyboard players who have the privilege of leading worship for our weekly middle school chapel. 

YEARBOOK/PHOTO OPS - 7th & 8th

Students will receive instruction in yearbook production, event photography, and photo layout and use this knowledge to take photos, design, and gather information for CCA’s Yearbook. They will also learn about photo assembly and editing. Everyone in class will have the opportunity to participate in beginning photography.

CHORUS - 5th Eagle Chorus; 6th, 7th & 8th Kingdom Chorus

CCA offers Chorus for all 5th through 8th students from beginning to practiced singers who enjoy singing. Students will strengthen their musicianship, as well as learn individual voice type, read music, sing, and perform with others. This elective will require additional before or after school participation in rehearsals and performances such as the Christmas program.

DRAMA - 5th Wheel; 6th Wheel; 7th & 8th

Drama is an elective where a student can discover their creative abilities, build their imagination, connect to others, and become a better communicator both on stage and off. Students will study artistic discipline, the elements of theatre, basic acting techniques, script writing strategies, scene development, technical theatre (set design, lights, sound, props, costumes and makeup), and the entire production process.

CULINARY ARTS - 7th & 8th

Students will cover an overview of basic cooking techniques including boiling, frying, grilling, etc. as well as knife skills as they relate to food preparation. Other topics include the basics of measurement, cooking sanitation, and how different foods work together in the science of food. This course prepares students to cook basic dishes and provide a culinary foundation for more advanced cooking courses. Culinary Arts is a class where every student participates.

BAND - 5th Beginning; 6th, 7th & 8th Advanced

The band program consists of 5th - 8th grade students. Students in Beginning Band will have the opportunity to learn to play one of the following instruments: flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, baritone, tuba, or percussion. In addition to learning how to play an instrument, students are instructed in musical notation, terminology, theory, history, improvisation, and composition. Band students are given opportunities to practice and perform in large ensembles, small ensembles, and as soloists in campus concerts as well as performances in the community.

COMPUTER - 5th Wheel, 6th Wheel, 7th

Students will learn critical digital literacy skills needed to succeed on online assessments, college, as well as their future careers. Using Learning.com’s Adaptive Keyboarding curriculum, this class incorporates a gamified user-interface, keyboarding adventures, and adaptive technology that will dynamically adapt the keyboarding content as the student progresses through the applications. Like Keyboarding, students will learn the main players of Microsoft’s Office Suite – Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Publisher. These programs will see students through high school and beyond.

SPANISH 1 - 8th

Spanish 1 introduces students to the culture and language of the Spanish speaking world to further create the opportunity for intercultural understanding. Spanish 1 will motivate interest in authentic culture through interactions taking place between the teacher and student. This course will be a live class, where students will practice the four skills (listening, speaking, reading, and writing) of the Spanish language. These skills will enable students to communicate meaningfully, effectively, and creatively using the language for real-life purposes. This course uses the Avancemos curriculum which utilizes many different tools including group collaboration, hands-on activities, and real-world application. Avancemos is currently being used in area high schools, which will allow students an easier transition into Spanish 2. Completion of this course will fulfill one foreign language High School credit. 

STEM - 7th

STEM is a curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines — Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics through an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to learning that provides hands-on and relevant learning experiences for students. STEM engages students and equips them with critical thinking, problem solving, creative and collaborative skills, and ultimately establishes connections between the school, work place, community, and the global economy. STEM also helps students understand and apply math and science content, the foundations for success in college and careers.

WOOD SHOP - 7th & 8th

Students will learn all features and aspects of shop safety and appropriate shop environmental practices, proper handling and maintaining power tools, basic methods of planning, preparation, design, and application for fabricating an assigned project. Students will learn basic drafting techniques as well as learn how to read and measure using a 12' tape measure. They will assess and determine what tools and materials, applications are required prior to beginning a project and will be responsible for proper clean up, storage, and maintenance of all wood shop tools, accessories, and the appearance of the work environment.
